Materials science company Arclin has announced a multimillion-dollar investment to expand Nomex production at its facility in Asturias, Spain, strengthening its manufacturing capabilities and global supply network.
The expansion will increase production capacity for Nomex materials used in aerospace, electric vehicles, electrical infrastructure, defence and other industrial applications.
The investment follows Arclin’s acquisition of the Nomex business in April 2026 and forms part of its strategy to support increasing customer demand through improvements in capacity, manufacturing reliability and supply-chain resilience.
Expanding European manufacturing capacity
Arclin’s Asturias facility has been part of the Nomex manufacturing network since 1993 and will play an increasingly important role in the company’s global production operations.
The planned expansion will introduce additional Nomex paper manufacturing capabilities, establishing the site as one of four production facilities within Arclin’s worldwide Nomex paper manufacturing network.
Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2027, with full commissioning scheduled for early 2028.
Arclin reported record Nomex paper production volumes in 2026 and anticipates further supply growth in 2027 as demand develops across its key markets.
Supporting industrial demand
Nomex materials are used in applications requiring thermal resistance, electrical insulation and reliable performance under demanding operating conditions.
The expansion is intended to support customers across several industrial sectors, including aerospace, transportation, power generation and electricity grid infrastructure.
Bradley Bolduc, Chief Executive Officer at Arclin, explained that the investment reflects the company’s commitment to developing the Nomex business following its acquisition.
He highlighted the importance of expanding manufacturing capacity in Asturias to strengthen the company’s global production network and maintain reliable supplies as demand increases.
Investment in advanced materials
Beyond increasing manufacturing capacity, Arclin is continuing to develop Nomex technology and material specifications to address changing customer requirements.
Mark Glaspey, President at Arclin, emphasised the importance of Nomex paper in applications ranging from aircraft and electric vehicles to power generation and electrical infrastructure.
The company is working with customers to support the development of new applications and meet evolving performance requirements across these markets.
The Asturias expansion represents a significant investment in European advanced materials manufacturing, with the additional production capacity expected to strengthen Arclin’s ability to serve customers internationally.
