BAE Systems has acquired a 130,000-square-foot production facility in Weld County, Colorado, to expand its manufacturing capacity for space-based hardware and sensor systems.
Announced on 21 October 2026, the acquisition will strengthen the company’s existing operations in Colorado and support increasing customer demand for advanced aerospace manufacturing capabilities.
The new facility is situated on approximately 13 acres and will provide additional production space for the company’s Space & Mission Systems business.
Expanding Aerospace Manufacturing Capacity
BAE Systems plans to adapt the facility for specialist manufacturing operations, with building modifications and equipment procurement scheduled to begin during the remainder of 2026.
The company expects production to commence in early 2028.
The expansion will support the manufacture of space-based hardware and sensor systems, strengthening BAE Systems’ ability to meet growing demand for specialised aerospace technology.
“We look forward to expanding our production capabilities in Colorado with our first facility in Weld County,” said Alexis Wang, Vice President of Operations for BAE Systems.
“The support we received from the Weld County Commissioners and the State of Colorado played a key role in our ability to locate this essential production work for the company in Colorado, extending our manufacturing presence in the state.”
Creating Skilled Manufacturing Jobs
BAE Systems expects to recruit more than 200 employees over the next 12 to 24 months to support operations at the new facility.
At full capacity, the company estimates that the site could employ approximately 600 people.
The expansion is expected to create opportunities for skilled manufacturing workers, engineers, and technical specialists.
Local government representatives have welcomed the development, highlighting its potential contribution to employment, industrial investment, and economic growth in Northern Colorado.
Strengthening Regional Manufacturing Operations
The new Weld County facility will complement BAE Systems’ existing production operations in Boulder, Broomfield, and Westminster.
By expanding its manufacturing footprint, the company aims to increase production capacity while strengthening its established engineering and manufacturing capabilities within the region.
The acquisition represents a further investment in Colorado’s aerospace manufacturing sector, supporting the development of specialist technologies used in space-based systems and associated applications.
BAE Systems plans to continue preparations for the new facility throughout 2026 and 2027, ahead of its anticipated production launch in early 2028.
