Astemo announces $11 million investment to expand automotive manufacturing in Indiana

Astemo has announced plans to invest more than $11 million in its manufacturing operations in Muncie, Indiana, expanding production capacity for automotive components used in internal combustion engine and hybrid electric vehicles.

Announced on 4 November 2026, the investment will introduce additional injection moulding capacity and a new assembly line for intake manifolds, supporting the company’s continued development of its US manufacturing operations. The new production line is expected to begin operations in March 2027, with up to nine additional jobs anticipated over the following three years.

Expanding automotive component production

The investment will strengthen Astemo’s manufacturing capabilities at its existing Muncie facility, which produces components for the automotive industry. The expansion includes the installation of new injection moulding equipment, alongside an additional assembly line dedicated to producing intake manifolds. Intake manifolds are important components within internal combustion engines, helping distribute air to the engine’s cylinders. The new equipment will support manufacturing for both conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) applications. By increasing production capacity at its established site, Astemo aims to support its existing manufacturing operations and future production requirements. The company expects the assembly line to become operational in March 2027.

Local government supports manufacturing investment

Astemo Americas Vice President of Operations Alejandro Navarro Lopez confirmed that the Muncie City Council has approved a five-year tax abatement to support the investment. The company acknowledged the contribution of the Economic Development Alliance of Muncie-Delaware County and the wider community in supporting the project. Astemo said the investment reinforces its long-term commitment to maintaining and developing manufacturing operations in Muncie. Traci Lutton, Vice President of Economic Development for the Economic Development Alliance of Muncie-Delaware County, welcomed the announcement. The Alliance works with local businesses and economic development organisations to support industrial growth, business retention and investment across Muncie and Delaware County.

Supporting employment and industrial growth

Astemo’s Muncie manufacturing facility was originally established in 1999 and currently employs approximately 188 people. According to the company, nearly 70% of its employees live in Muncie, demonstrating the operation’s importance to the local workforce. The latest investment is expected to create up to nine additional positions over the next three years. Astemo has also encouraged individuals interested in employment opportunities to explore available positions through its careers website. The development adds to the company’s established manufacturing presence in Indiana and supports continued investment in automotive production capabilities.
