MKS Inc. has announced the expansion of its Atotech equipment manufacturing facility in Guangzhou, China, through a $25 million investment designed to increase production capacity and create more than 300 employment opportunities.
Announced on 2 November 2026, the expansion will significantly increase the site’s manufacturing footprint while introducing additional machining, fabrication and engineering capabilities. The project was launched in June 2026 and is now expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2027.
Expanding advanced manufacturing capacity
The investment will increase the Guangzhou facility’s manufacturing space from 20,000 square metres to 50,000 square metres, supporting the company’s growing production requirements. MKS also plans to introduce 30 advanced machining and fabrication systems, enabling the facility to increase manufacturing output and strengthen its ability to deliver equipment to customers. The expansion is intended to increase annual sustainable production capacity while improving manufacturing capabilities, project execution and operational efficiency. According to MKS, the development is being driven by significant demand for plating equipment manufactured at the Guangzhou site. This demand is linked to the continued growth of electronics and industrial manufacturers across Greater China and Southeast Asia, particularly in Thailand and Vietnam.
Strengthening engineering and technical capabilities
Alongside the increase in manufacturing capacity, MKS intends to expand its engineering operations and strengthen local installation teams. The company plans to support technical development through additional training, knowledge sharing and joint engineering projects with MKS teams operating internationally. The expansion will also provide dedicated space for research and development activities, including the testing and validation of new products. These capabilities are intended to support the continued development of manufacturing equipment and strengthen the technical support available to customers across the region.
Supporting electronics and semiconductor manufacturing
The Guangzhou facility operates under MKS’s Atotech brand, which specialises in advanced surface modification, plating technologies and surface finishing. Atotech develops manufacturing technologies used across semiconductor production, electronics and advanced packaging, as well as several specialist industrial applications. Its portfolio includes equipment, process chemistry, software and technical services designed to support increasingly complex manufacturing requirements. The company’s technologies serve customers across multiple industries, including data centres, consumer electronics, communications infrastructure, automotive manufacturing and industrial machinery. As manufacturers continue to develop more advanced electronic components and production processes, plating and surface finishing technologies remain important to the performance and reliability of finished products.
Supporting regional manufacturing growth
The Guangzhou expansion represents a further investment in MKS’s manufacturing operations and customer support network across Asia. By increasing local production capacity and engineering resources, the company aims to respond more effectively to regional demand while strengthening its equipment manufacturing and installation capabilities. The project is expected to create more than 300 employment opportunities and introduce additional production infrastructure when completed. With completion anticipated in the third quarter of 2027, the investment will support MKS’s wider manufacturing strategy and its ability to supply equipment to the growing electronics and industrial manufacturing sectors across Greater China and Southeast Asia.
